9 Healthy (and Delicious!) Bread Machine Recipes

Today we want to share some of our favorite tried-and-tested healthy bread machine recipes with you.
Most of these recipes have the added nutrients of fruit and nuts which makes these treats healthy and delicious.
We also threw in dessert recipes because there’s nothing healthier than making your own desserts at home as you can control the ingredients!
We know that some people have large bread machines and some have small bread machines, so to accommodate everyone, the recipes here are intended for smaller-capacity bread machines, but they will of course work on larger models.
We learned most of these recipes from the bread machine manufacturers’ recipe book and website, while making our own adjustments here and there.

Rosemary Cranberry Whole Wheat Bread
The aroma of rosemary and the sweet and tangy taste of dried cranberries combined with the flavor of whole wheat make for a delicious loaf of bread!
A slice of this rosemary cranberry whole wheat bread is best enjoyed with some butter and hot soup. Otherwise a hearty breakfast with fried eggs, or as a sandwich with cheese and cold cuts.
- 7/8 cup water
- 1 cup whole wheat flour
- 1-1/4 cups bread flour
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon dry milk
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
- 1/2 tablespoon dried rosemary
When the machine beeps, add:
- 1/4 cup chopped dried cranberries
If your bread machine has a fruit and nut dispenser, insert the cranberries in there before starting the machine, and it will release them automatically at just the right time.
Mango Jam
If you’re someone who makes jam with your bread machine, try out this mango jam recipe!
It’s a nice change from berry jams, and since it works with frozen mango, you can make this all year round without having to wait for mangoes to be in season!
You can enjoy this mango jam with a slice of bread or use it in scones, pancakes, yogurt, and other desserts.
Add these ingredients to your bread machine and select the “Jam” setting.
- 2 cups fresh or frozen (defrosted) diced mango
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1/2 packet of fruit pectin
Tomato Basil Bread
This recipe uses tomato juice instead of water, which will give the bread a nice orange color and enhance the flavor.
Enjoy it as a sandwich with cheese and cold cuts, or make a delicious pizza toast with it!
Add these ingredients to your bread machine in the order listed, making sure the yeast doesn’t touch the liquid. Use the “Basic” or “Regular” setting on your bread machine.
- 3/4 cups tomato juice
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 2-1/4 cups bread flour
- 1-1/2 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1-1/2 tablespoon dry milk
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 to 2 teaspoons dried basil
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
Banana Walnut Cake
A classic banana walnut cake – what more do we need to say!
This recipe uses sour cream and butter to create the perfect texture and taste.
Add these ingredients to your bread machine and select the “Cake” setting.
- 2 eggs at room temperature, lightly beaten
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1-1/2 cups all purpose flour
- 3 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/3 cup melted butter
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/3 cup ripe, mashed banana
- 1/4 cup sour cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
When the machine beeps, add:
- 1/3 cup chopped walnuts
If your bread machine has a fruit and nut dispenser, insert the walnuts in there before starting the machine, and it will release them automatically at just the right time.
Apple Oat Bread
Apple oat bread is one of our favorite breads to eat at breakfast.
It’s packed with nutrition which makes it the perfect thing (for busy people!) to start the day.
Enjoy a slice with butter or on its own!
Add these ingredients to your bread machine in the order listed, making sure the yeast doesn’t touch the liquid. Use the “Basic” or “Regular” setting on your bread machine.
- 3/4 cup apple juice
- 2-1/4 cups bread flour
- 2 teaspoons brown sugar
- 1/3 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1/4 cup oats
- 1/3 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
When the machine beeps, add:
- 1/4 cup dried apple, diced
If your bread machine has a fruit and nut dispenser, insert the dried apple in there before starting the machine, and it will release them automatically at just the right time.
Spiced Zucchini Bread
This spiced zucchini bread is the perfect thing to make for that special occasion!
This bread is moist and packed with flavor and you’ll probably want to make it over and over again during zucchini season.
Add these ingredients to your bread machine and select the “Cake” setting.
- 2 eggs at room temperature, lightly beaten
- 1/8 cup melted butter
- 1 cup all purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon allspice
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon orange peel
When the machine beeps, add:
- 1/2 cup shredded zucchini
- 1/3 cup chopped walnuts
If your bread machine has a fruit and nut dispenser, insert the zucchini and walnuts in there before starting the machine, and it will release them automatically at just the right time.
Potato Sour Cream and Chives Bread
This recipe uses mashed potato to give the bread a soft, creamy, moist texture that’s out of this world.
Make a smoked salmon and cream cheese sandwich or a BLT sandwich with light and airy slices of this loaf.
It’s also the perfect thing to enjoy with a slathering of butter, served with some hot soup or to accommodate a main dish.
Add these ingredients to your bread machine in the order listed, making sure the yeast doesn’t touch the liquid. Use the “Basic” or “Regular” setting on your bread machine.
- 1/3 cup potato water
- 1/3 cup mashed potato
- 3 tablespoons sour cream
- 1-1/2 tablespoons fresh chives, chopped
- 1-1/2 tablespoons unsalted butter, 1/2” pieces at room temperature
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1-3/4 cups bread flour
- 1 tablespoon milk powder
- 1-1/4 teaspoon active dry yeast
Pesto and Pine Nut Bread
This delicious and nutritious French-style bread is packed with the flavors of pesto and pine nuts.
Our favorite thing to make with slices of these is a grilled cheese sandwich!
Add these ingredients to your bread machine in the order listed, making sure the yeast doesn’t touch the liquid. Use the “French” or “Crusty Loaf” setting on your bread machine.
- 2/3 cup water
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 3 tablespoons basil pesto (homemade or store-bought)
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 teaspoon brown sugar
- 2 cups bread flour
- 3 tablespoons freshly grated parmesan cheese
- 3/4 teaspoon active dry yeast
When the machine beeps, add:
- 1/4 cup toasted pine nuts
If your bread machine has a fruit and nut dispenser, insert the pine nuts in there before starting the machine, and it will release them automatically at just the right time.
Gluten Free Lemon Lime Cake
This gluten-free lemon lime cake recipe uses coconut milk, lemon juice, and lime juice to create a flavorful and aromatic treat.
This is one of our favorite go-to bread machine desserts. The sweet and tangy taste will leave you wanting more!
Add these ingredients to your bread machine and select the “Cake” setting.
- 6 eggs at room temperature, beaten
- 1/3 cup coconut milk
- 3 tablespoons lemon juice
- 3 tablespoons lime juice
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 2 teaspoons lime zest
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon lemon zest
- 1 cup coconut flour, sifted
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
To make a citrus glaze, combine these ingredients and pour over the cake once it has cooled:
- 1/4 cup icing sugar
- 1-1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
